At the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League (ACAPL), our work is centered on preventing animal suffering and providing humane care to animals in need.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humane society serving Ashtabula County. Each year, we care for dogs and cats who are sick, injured, neglected, homeless, or whose owners can no longer provide for them. Our focus is on rescuing animals when we have the capacity to care for them responsibly, providing medical and behavioral support, and working toward safe and appropriate outcomes. ACAPL accepts owner surrenders and stray cats as space and resources allow. By managing our intake carefully, we are able to focus on the animals already in our care and ensure they receive the attention, treatment, and compassion they deserve. We no longer serve as a stray-hold facility for dogs. If you have found a stray dog, please call the Ashtabula County Dog Warden at 440.576.6538 and use options "1" and/or "2". In addition to sheltering and adoption, we work to reduce future suffering by promoting spay and neuter, responsible pet ownership, and humane education. When possible, we also provide limited resources and referrals to help keep pets in their homes and prevent unnecessary surrender. Our work is made possible by the dedication of donors, volunteers, and fosters. Because we receive limited government funding, community support plays a vital role in allowing us to protect animals and improve their quality of life. We welcome you to learn more about our mission, support our work, or meet the animals currently in our care by visiting our shelter and reaching out at 440.224.1222 / [email protected]! |
