At this time all dog and small animal surrenders are on hold. Due to space constraints we have an extended waiting list. If you already have an application in, you are on the waiting list and we are working diligently to get your animal into the shelter. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
We do not accept unscheduled public drop-offs.
We work through our registered list as quickly as possible. Filling out the form below is the fastest way to get into the surrender queue. Shortly after the form is submitted you will receive an email.
At the Ashtabula Animal Protective League, we believe in lifelong commitments to companion animals and work tirelessly to create and maintain those bonds. However, we do understand that there are circumstances that prevent you from being able to keep your pet, and we are here to help you through this difficult time. To provide you and your pet with the best possible service and because we do not euthanize animals for lack of space or length of stay an appointment is required for all animal surrenders.
Before surrendering your pet to the Ashtabula Animal Protective League we ask that you exhaust all other options of rehoming your pet with another loving family. If you are unable to find a new home you will need to fill out a Dog Surrender Form or Cat Surrender Form for each animal you are needing to surrender. Once we receive these forms we will review the information and one of our staff members will contact you as soon as possible for a phone interview to discuss your request and obtain any additional information needed. If we are able to take your pet, an appointment will be scheduled at that time. We can only take animals that are able to be safely rehomed, animals must be friendly, socialized and without known aggressive behavior. Scheduling an appointment ahead of time helps our staff dedicate time to you and your pet entering the shelter and offers you the privacy of this hard decision. You will be required to sign a legal release of ownership and donate a surrender fee based on your ability that will be determined during your phone interview.
The surrender fee helps you contribute to the cost of care of the animal while in our care. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact our office at (440)224-1222 or [email protected].
