How it Works
*Please do not call the shelter to book an appointment, all reservations must be made online or in person.
The Rascal Unit will arrive at the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League  (5970 Green Road, Ashtabula, Ohio) on the dates listed below.  Clinics are by appointment only.  You will be required to pre-register via online form and pay via Paypal/ Credit Card to hold your appointment.  Clinics accommodate a combined total of 40 to 50 feline and canine surgeries per day. Once a clinic is full, we will update this page and refer you to our next scheduled clinic.
For reservations, complete the form provided below.   Once your form is processed, our Animal Care Manager will contact you with the final price of your visit.  Additional services rendered the day of surgery will be paid on clinic day.  Reservations will be confirmed once payment for the services are received.  You will receive an email confirming the appointment along with further instructions for drop off.
  • Any appointment once made and paid for CANNOT be rescheduled, changed or refunded.
  • If you miss an appointment, there is no refund.
  • Your payment is non-refundable in the event of a no-show.
  • All dogs/cats MUST be up to date on rabies vaccinations. If your dog/cat is current you must leave proof of current rabies vaccination with your pet. Tags will not be accepted. Otherwise, your dog/cat will receive the vaccine at a cost of $10.00 per pet.
  • Please note that an additional $10.00 administrative fee will be added to the price of your visit to help with the cost of running the clinic.

All felines presented for surgery and non-surgery evaluations must come in a secure Hard-Sided crate.
All canines must be on a leash or crate.
There can only be one patient per crate.
We will not release multiple patients in one crate. It is the owner/caretaker’s responsibility to have a secure crate for their pet. Cats cannot be presented on a leash or harness – they must be in a hard sided crate.

Spay/Neuter Additional Costs
  • If a female dog is in heat, there will be an additional fee of $6. Please keep in mind that large breed, overweight and older dogs in heat have a higher risk. For this reason, we may turn away a dog after the initial exam if we do not feel they are a good surgical candidate. The in-heat charge does not apply to cats.
  • Pregnant dogs and cats will be charged $5.00 – $10 extra.
  • If a male dog or cat is a cryptorchid (testicles have not fully descended), the cost of the procedure will be the cost of the neuter plus up to the full price of a spay for the same size.
  • If a pet is found to be spayed after sedation, there will be a $25.00 fee.
  • If a female dog or cat is found to be already spayed during surgery, the regular surgery fee will apply (exploratory laparotomy).
  • If a pet does not have written proof of a current Rabies vaccine given by a licensed veterinarian, the vaccine will be given the day of surgery at a cost of $10.00.
  • Pet’s presented for surgery that are not able to have a procedure done (already sterilized, sick, injured) will be assessed a $15 brief pre-operative exam fee.
