Mary joined the ACAPL in August of 2020 after serving for five years as executive director of the community development corporation for the city of Chardon. She has over 20 years of experience in fundraising, non-profit management, marketing, public program development and communications. During her tenure at MOCA Cleveland, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and The Holden Arboretum, Mary developed award-winning public relations and education programs. She’s also helped other non-profits with strategic planning, communications management, and program development through past work on seven non-profit boards, advisory committees and as a volunteer with Business Volunteers Unlimited. Mary is a 2020 graduate of Leadership Geauga, and in addition to her undergraduate degree and graduate coursework in Communications Management, she has received certifications in Animal Behaviour and Training, Fear Free Shelters, Shelter Management, etc. Mary lives in Geauga County with her husband, two children, rescue pups Gloria & Mo, Mona (Cat), Blaze (Bearded Dragon), Poe (Crested Gecko), and a gaggle of chickens. |

Jen joined the ACAPL as Animal Care Manager in October 2020. Previously, she worked for 14 years helping the homeless, injured, and abused animals at Lake Humane Society, and held many roles while there. Jen was sworn in as Humane Agent in 2009 after completing the mandated humane agent training through OPOTA. As Humane Agent, Jen investigated over 1000 reports of animal cruelty and neglect throughout Lake County, Jen also worked as Shelter Operations Manager at Lake Humane Society where she created and hosted the shelter’s first microchip and rabies clinics. In addition to her roles as Operations Manager and Humane Agent, Jen also provided Humane Education programs at many different schools from pre-school through high school. She created and assisted with animal enrichment programs, such as Canine Happy Hour, and was a part of the shelter’s Fundraising Committee. Jen has attended numerous trainings and seminars relating to animal safety, shelter medicine, high volume spay/neuter, animal enrichment, and humane law enforcement. Jen has also worked as a veterinary assistant and receptionist at a regular veterinary clinic and PetFix. Jen is passionate about the importance of proper animal nutrition and holistic approaches to treating non-life threatening ailments. Jen is vice president of the Mentor Orchestra Association Board, a position she co-chairs with her husband. She is also a violinist with the Lakeland Civic Orchestra. Jen and her husband share their home with 2 human children, a Chinese Crested named Mr. Guy Dog (adopted from LHS), Pibba the Pitbull (adopted from RV), and 2 ragdoll mix cats named Lumiere and Cogsworth (adopted from Tails From The City). |
